Sux2BeU Research's Relative Strength Investing Support and Purchase Center

This page can be used to download a free copy of the Introduction Section of Sux2BeU Research's Relative Strength Investing: Mechanical Ways of Beating the Market. I've also provided links to purchase the paper from Soapbox.com or from me directly. Directions are below.

There are also some other free goodies. I put together two spreadsheets that I was going to market as INSTANTHistory products, but I am giving them away for free. They are Monthly Formula 90 and Monthly RS-IBD. Be the first on your block to download and see what it was like to hold these portfolios from 4/84 through 12/99! Also, the Excel sheets used to create the Appendix for my RSI paper are at the bottom of this page. Note the latest revisions.

Download the Intro!

The following is a list of instructions for downloading and enjoying the Introduction Section to Relative Strength Investing: Mechanical Ways of Beating the Market:

  • Download and install the latest version of the Adobe Viewer from Adobe Software for free: Download Acrobat Viewer; and,
  • Download the Introduciton Section by clicking here.

  • Buy the Paper!

If you like the Introduction and want to purchase the paper, you can do that by going directly to the Fool at Soapbox.com.

    Prior Purchaser Support:

If you had purchased the RSI paper from FoolMart between March and May of this year please forward to me a prior receipt or order number or something that proves that you received the paper from me or FoolMart to [email protected]. I sent the paper to many people personally in the first few days it was available. If you have one of those letters and its from me I consider that official as well.

If you don?t have anything official that says you purchased it from the FoolMart that is not a problem. Contact FoolMart and ask for an order number or electronic receipt for your purchase. FoolMart shouldn?t have any problem providing that information to you and has already done so for those that have asked. Once you have that information then forward it to me at [email protected] and I?ll send you a copy of the report within 24 hours.

Sorry to have to go through this but there are a lot of bootleg copies of the paper out there---maybe as many illegal copies as there are legit. I need to provide to those that fairly purchased the paper the right to receive an updated copy while not encouraging copyright infringement and piracy.

    Paper Data Support:

Last update: 8/24/00 (mislisting of 9/97 Form 90 stocks)

  • Returns & Graphs WinZipped Excel File The Excel file I am using to complile my backtest results. Includes DJIA, OTC, and S&P 500 returns for the same periods. Returns are determined from 1/84-12/98 (4/84 for IBD-based screens). Also includes cumulative return graphs for that visual appeal! This file is the source of the graphs and data in the RSI's Appendix, so if you want to do your own computations then download this Zipped Excel sheet and go to town!

  • INSTANTHistory Products:

These products are showing graphs and return data that simulates holding individual stocks and portfolios of stocks for a 16 year time period (1984-1999) on a daily basis. The files include the stock listings and rank of holdings, daily stock prices and daily returns, and the cumulative graphs and results. If you like the RS MI methods but are an inexperienced investor this will be the best way to "catch up" by seeing what has happened to prior portfolios and the market on a day-by-day basis for the last 16 years!

The only two INSTANTHistory are complete. Monthly Formula 90 and RS-IBD monthly has been compiled and are available for download right here. Each file is compressed and is ~9MB compressed and ~27MB decompressed. Expect your computer to chew on it for a while after opening the file. Lots of intense graphs! I am not putting together any more.....I'd like to get my life back.

Both are the daily portfolio holdings for the Formula 90 and RS-IBD screen, respectively, for the monthly periods using the First Friday methodology for the 1, 3, 5 and 10 stock holdings from 4/84 through 12/99 using the MI method. All prices and returns are end of day.

  • Daily RS-IBD monthly.
  • Daily Formula 90 monthly.
  • Owners of older Pentium computers and low RAM should expect to have a long time in even opening the file. It will open, but the spreadsheet does attempt to do several hundred-thousand calculations. Just click on the page and it should stop. You might consider turning off the auto calculation function in the OPTIONS menu of Excel. I do.
